Plastic Surgery Perfection vs. Proportion: How To Achieve The Ideal Look For You

Plastic Surgery Perfection vs. Proportion: How To Achieve The Ideal Look For You

n partnership with Karina Giglio

The Duchess of Cambridge’s nose. Penélope Cruz’s lips. Angelina Jolie’s cheekbones. Ask any plastic surgeon and, chances are, they've encountered any number of patients entering their office with pictures of those celebrity facial features. It’s certainly not surprising that people going in for cosmetic surgery would ask that the body part in question be made to look like that of a certain Hollywood star deemed “perfect.” But any surgeon worth his or her weight in BOTOX®will tell you that proportion — not perfection — is the secret to looking your best.

Treatments for sun damaged skin

Sun and tanning can cause serious damage to your skin—especially if your skin is left untreated. Wrinkles and age spots are just two of the many negative marks that the sun can leave on your skin even after it sets. And, unfortunately, your face and décolleté are oftentimes the first places this damage begins to show.

The sun emits harmful ultraviolet light—the main culprit in sunburn. While laying out in the sun and building a tan is quite relaxing, over time, exposure to ultraviolet rays can lead to multiple problem areas, adding years to your look. In fact, research suggests that UV rays amount to 80 percent of the reason skin ages.

By the time sunburn forms, most of the damage is already done to your skin. UV rays break down collagen and elastin, two proteins that keep skin smooth. Overexposure also damages skin cell DNA, leading to physical changes like wrinkles over time.

Your skin cells produce a chemical called melanin to protect itself against the harmful effects of the sun. Ironically, though, too much sun can cause melanin to ‘clump’ together, resulting in flat brown or black splotches known as sun (or age) spots.

It makes perfect sense: the sun deprives your skin of natural moisture and hydration. Sun overexposure can leave skin parched and looking ashy, flaky, and rough.

Sun overexposure can lead to the formation of dry, scaly, and crusty patches known as Actinic Keratosis (AK). When left untreated, AK can turn much serious than a spell of dry skin—nearly 10 percent of cases result in skin cancer.

First and foremost, prevention is the best weapon. If the below items are not already in your beach bag, stock up on them now:

  • Sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher

  • Wide-brimmed hats

  • Summer scarves

  • Sunglasses

Proper moisturization and exfoliation also help, so invest in a loofah and quality lotion. Furthermore, remember to stay hydrated and to visit a dermatologist annually (at least). Remember, these guidelines aren’t only applicable when the sun is shining bright. UV rays can reach your skin and cause sunburn even during overcast weather.

Depending on the type of sun damage as identified during your free consultation your therapist will advise on a range of treatments that help repair sun damaged skin:

Chemical Peeling

Chemical peels are liquid solutions which can be applied to skin to remove dead skin cells and promote regeneration and new cell growth.  They are used in the treatment of irregular pigmentation, acne scarring and to reduce facial lines by tightening the skin, and typically use trichloroacetic, salicylic or glycolic acid.  The effectiveness of a chemical peel – and the normal recovery time – will vary depending on the depth of the treatment: medium and deep skin peels require more time for the skin to heal but tend to have a greater effect.

A course of Radio Frequency (RF) treatments will help to lift, firm and tighten skin. RF stimulates the skin’s own ability to produce collagen and elastin.

Radio Frequency is quick, convenient and painless. RF immediately reveals tighter, younger looking skin, all without the cost and pain of cosmetic procedures promising similar results.

Laser Skin Rejuvenation

Laser resurfacing is one of the most innovative ways to rejuvenate damaged skin, tackle signs of ageing and even out areas of discolouration in as little as 20 minutes per session. Addressing pigmentation, age spots, sun damage, acne scars and wrinkles, the method restores a refreshed appearance on the face and neckline without the need for excessive downtime.

Photobiodynamic Peeling

Fotoage by Skymedic offers our specialist the possibility of treating skin conditions in three areas of the face and neck independently, thanks to its highly flexible material and adaptable to the curves of the face and neck. FOTOAGE photodynamic therapy is a non-invasive technique, based on the stimulation of those natural processes that the skin itself has to regenerate and repair itself.

Facials for men - We are your skincare specialists in Chelsea!

At Kensington SkinCare we are the experts in creating skincare treatments dedicated to your individual skin. Our expert technicians will consult with you on the best course of treatment. We use hands on beauty techniques, advanced aesthetics or a combination of both for a better and healthier looking skin.

Men’s facials, what’s all that about? Unlike ones designed for our female counterparts, male facials are developed to combat those skincare problems Men all commonly face: ingrown hairs, flakey skin, infamous razor burn and the rest. There’s dozens of different treatments, but most male facials combine massage techniques with a deep cleanse to create definition while keeping skin fresh and toned. Sign us up!

What to expect?

Male facials tend to stick to seven simple steps, including cleansing, exfoliating, steaming, an anti-ageing face mask, toning, moisturising and a relaxing massage. The deep cleanse and exfoliation come first, and pesky blackheads may also be extracted; trust us, it’s painful but worth it. For the finishing touches, your aesthetician will remove any bits of dirt and debris using oils infused with things like sandalwood and vanilla (no flowery nonsense here). You’ll leave with an immediate healthy glow that should last 48-72 hours, plus long-lasting benefits you can really see and feel.

Know before you go

  • Facials can be adapted to benefit each and every skin type, so as long as you let the therapist know about your specific requirements at the start of the treatment, you’ll be good to go!
  • Do not shave immediately before your appointment. Shaving can leave skin feeling tender, sore and especially sensitive to products, so whipping off that fuzz the day or evening before is a much better option.

The sciencey stuff

If your complexion is in need of some maintenance and you want to transform your skin from rough to smooth, don’t rule facials out. The body’s healing process can slow down for many reasons, and factors like exposure to the sun and bad life choices will also take their toll. Facials are effective in reducing this damage, boosting the production of collagen with massage and revealing new cells with exfoliation. Late nights will mess with your face, but a facial will fix it.

We look forward to welcoming you soon.

Why everyone is talking about the LVL Lash Lift...

Lift, volume and length – the holy trinity of show-stopping eyes. One 45-minute treatment promises to deliver all three, without the need for extensions or falsies. Intrigued? We don’t blame you! If you’ve always desired Bambi-like lengths, but the maintenance isn’t your thing and you’re fed up with grappling with an eyelash curler every morning, it’s time to look into Lash Lifts.

Your fabulous flutter will begin with your therapist removing any makeup and oils from your eyes, before placing a soft fabric guard over your lower lashes to keep them out of the way. A small silicon shield will then be put on each of your lids close to the lash line, and your lashes will gently be lifted up and pressed onto the shield. A lifting gel is then applied to the roots of the lashes and left on to set. After 10 minutes, the gel is removed and a neutralising solution is applied. Finally, a tint is applied to give your peepers extra pow, followed by a conditioning serum to coax your lashes off the silicon pad. One final comb through later and you have achieved perfect lashes from the moment you wake up.

You can choose from three levels of lift – small, medium or large, depending on how much drama you’re after.
Your flutter will last for around six weeks – perfect for a special event, holiday or big night out.
If you have sparse lashes and are looking for a dramatically longer and fuller look, you may get on better with extensions or LashDip.

Unlike a traditional lash perm, lash lifts and LVL Lashes straighten your natural lashes at the root to create the appearance of longer, thicker lashes. This may sound scary, but it actually uses a milder solution than eyelash perming and the flat eyelid shields are designed with your comfort in mind.
